Trafalgar River Cruise 2009 Waterways of the Czars

Waterways of the Czars
Moscow to St. Petersburg - 13 Days

Follow in the path of Peter the Great, who sailed from Moscow along the Volga River to St. Petersburg approximately 300 years ago on a quest to take Russia from the “Dark Ages” into the “Enlightened Age.” While St. Petersburg is a relatively young city compared to Moscow, both cities are rich in beautiful architecture, world-famous museums, and exciting history. From the luminous domes of St. Basil's Cathedral in Red Square in Moscow to the complex canals of St. Petersburg, you’ll explore two amazing cities at the start and end of your journey. And in between, you’ll uncover small towns and medieval villages. Discover the Golden Ring cities during visits to Uglich, Yaroslavl and Goritsy. Marvel at Kizhi Island, famous for its elaborate wooden structures built entirely without nails. Get a taste of the Russian countryside while visiting Mandrogi. Immerse yourself in the cultural and natural treasures of this vast and magnificent nation cruising the Waterways of the Czars.

Who will enjoy this cruise: Those with a curiosity about “the sleeping giant” so long closed off to Western tourists. Lovers of fine art and exquisite architecture, and students of history.
